Big Blue and the Cornhusker Bird Buster

by Capt. Kevin Faver, Capt. Kirk Waltz, and Jeff Lageman

Today’s show came LIVE from Coastal Equipement, one of the Outdoors Show’s great sponsors!  And “live was the perfect word for it, too – it was a wild one!

We spent quite a bit of time talking about water conditions and just how crazy the bait fishing continues to be all over the area.  But as things often do, the conversations and the stories meandered to auto-pilots, much-needed naps, self-proclaimed striper “experts”, and Kirk Waltz, winner of the one-man Jacksonville Sting Ray Tournament!

In the middle of it all, Jeff got to share stories about his incredible turkey hunt in Nebraska.  It’s like a bunch of stories inside a big story, so its something you have to check out for yourself.

Sometimes the guys are a little leery of products with funky names and bold claims…all too often, there’s no steak to go along with the sizzle.  But with this week’s tip, Capt. Kirk recommends a gem called the Ultimate Speed Spooler.  They say it’s “a revolution in fishing”… Kirk just thinks it’s pretty darn cool.  The Ultimate Speed Spooler uses a patented rotating carriage to automatically eliminate line twists by turning th eline spool as the line is transferred to the spinning reel.  It works on baitcasters, too.

Place your eggs in a pot of cold water and cover completely.  Add a tsp. of baking soda and a tsp. of vegetable oil.  This will help when you peel your eggs.

Bring water to a boil and boil for ten minutes.

Remove pot from heat, dump out hot water and fill with cold water.  Let the eggs sit in the cold water for a few minutes.

Shell your eggs and enjoy!

This is the time of year when we love to slow troll live baits! We all have a tendency to keep the motor in gear and go as slow as possible. Try this: If you have a decent breeze get upwind of your spot and drift with the wind. Also occasionally throw some live baits overboard to fire the fish off! Works wonders!

Be sure to follow us on Facebook for great stuff all week…and be sure to send us your own great pics, stories, and questions.  We’d love to hear from you!
