OS1062: The 2019 Outdoors Show Draft

The NFL Draft is happening this weekend, so the guys thought it made sense to have a draft of their own! Everyone drafted their top outdoors people – some family, some friends, some celebrities. The guys also went in-depth on boater and water safety, too. It was great way to end April – lots of education and lots of laughs!

Jeff’s favorite fish (kingfish, of course) showed up this week on the inshore wrecks! Make sure you put your down rigger back on the boat!

Capt. Kirk’s BBQ Medallions

1 pkg of pork shoulder 21/4 lbs diced 2in pieces
2 Vidalia onions
3 cups of ketchup
2 tbs garlic powder
2 tbs of worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup of brown sugar
2 teaspoons of mustard (Frenchs)
1 cup of flour
1 cup corn starch
1/4 cup of peanut oil


Slice, cut up onion, and sauté the onion in tbs of oil…. place off to side
Put ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder and worcestershire in large skillet pan and simmer on low heat slowly combining onions.
In another pan brown the pork after they have been dusted with flour/corn starch in the remaining oil till all sides have been browned. Slowly marry the sauce into the pan with the ribs. Simmer on the stove on low heat for approximately 1 hour.
Serve over rice or with mashed potatoes

OS1061: Springtime Story Time

Even with Capt. Kirk out of the office, Capt. Kevin and Jeff had PLENTY of stories to tell about the weather, the fishing, and the hunting. Of course, the big news item of the week was the dramatic way the cobia have resurfaced on the First Coast, so there was plenty to of stuff to share.

And speaking of sharing, the guys got to share some great food brought in by Chef Gordon and HOFer Lester…not to mention some insanely delicious cookies from the mind of Miss Jewell!

There are rays on the beach. A couple things to keep in mind. The best time to start looking for rays on the beach is 11:30am. Start in 35 to 40 feet. Don’t get in a hurry because rays have a tendency to come to the surface for a short time then disappear. Be patient!

OS1060: Line, Leaders, and Crazy Uncle Ed

With Kevin out of town, Jeff and Kirk invited Crazy Uncle Ed Malin of Angie’s Subs to sit in and talk fishing…among a BUNCH of other things. The guys shared some insight into fluorocarbon and everyone called in with their favorite outdoor leaders – those TV hosts that made a lasting impression on them. And one more thing – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SKEETER!

If your hands get dry, you need to listen to Capt. Kirk. He STRONGLY recommends you get yourself some Badger Balm.

From Captain Kevin: There are some cobia around right now. If you do go offshore this weekend make sure you have a pitch rod rigged and ready to go!

OS1059: Disappearing Turkeys and Reappearing Fish

Usually, at least one of the guys has a story during turkey season. But not this week! None of them bagged a bird, but at least the fishing started to pick up. The guys talked about their fishing exploits, and celebrated John Wagner, winner of the custom cart raffle benefiting Angelwood!
