OS1075: Real Life Shark Week

Forget the documentaries, movies and reality TV shows, because Shark Week has NOTHING on what is happening in First Coast waters right now. Hammerheads, bulls, tigers, black tips, and a bunch of other shark species are everywhere right now, and they are hungry! Get all the important information and a couple creepy stories, too!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Get a pair of these Pittsburgh 16 inch pliers for just $9.99 from Harbor Freight. These are great for pulling hooks from a distance and if they get messed up – they will replace for free!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: Not to scare folks but the bull sharks are everywhere around the St. Augustine inlet. They are really bad around the jetties all the way south of the 312 bridge. Lots of fish that were hooked this week were eaten by sharks. Just be careful!!

Here’s your KirbyCo Builders, Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Kevin: I was fortunate enough last weekend that a very good friend caught a wahoo and I got about 2 pounds! Wahoo is such good sushi! This is the best soy sauce ever! What’s your favorite?

Fishing Forecast-July 25-Big Fish, Big Buts, Big News

Kevin and Scott have a big announcement for you Fishing Forecast fans that listen on the radio. Kevin talks about his big fish…and the big goof Scotty pulled with it. And it sounded like the bait was around, but… They have the latest info for you as well, so you can make those fishing plans.

OS1074: Kingfish and Snapper Insanity

You probably will have a little trouble believing this, but all of the guys managed to get to the studio for the show this week! And what a week to come back to – with the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish tournament and red snapper season still going strong, things were INSANE. Get the details and the stories all right here.

This No-See-Um spray is INCREDIBLE! Keeps the gnats, no-see-ums and more away… Jeff put it to the test this past week in GA and gives it a big thumbs up!

Got Goggles? Occasionally you will get line or rope fouled in your prop so if it is necessary to remove it…it helps to have a pair of goggles or a dive mask on board.

You can’t go wrong for breakfast with this sandwich: Mary B’s Biscuits, Jimmy Dean sausage and some strawberry jam. YUM!

Fishing Forecast-July 18-Hot Fun in the Summertime

OS1073: Snapper, Boots, and Telluride

Snapper Season is underway, which guarantees all kinds of silliness, and Capt. Kirk was in the middle of it! So Jeff and Capt. Kevin took the show on the road to Theramed Medical Clinic in Callahan. Jeff shared his stories about Telluride, CO, Kevin talked about snapper fever, and everyone chimed in about their favorite pair of work boots.

Jeff was looking for a special tip from you! He’s in the market for a new pair of work boots. What brand would you recommend? Listen to hear what some listeners suggested, and check out our Facebook to see what some others posted!

Captain Kevin says it’s going to be a crazy weekend at the boat ramps due to snapper season. Remember to be patient! Also… if it’s dark when you are launching – turn your headlights off and turn on your parking lights. That way you won’t blind the next guy trying to back down.

Jeff’s Crunchy Red Snapper

Filet fish into pieces (we like ours in strips), rinse and pat dry with paper towels. In a large bowl, combine a few heaping tablespoons of mayo and a squirt of yellow mustard.  In another large bowl, combine panko bread crumbs, salt, pepper and finely shredded parmesan cheese.  Coat the snapper in the mayo mix, then cover/coat in the panko mix and put on the copper crisper rack or a non stick cookie sheet.  Bake in the oven at 425 until it’s super crispy!  Enjoy!

OS1072: Tales of the Captains Three

The Outdoors Show Summer Vacation Tour continued this week – this time, it was Jeff who took to the road, leaving Kevin and Kirk behind. So they called on Moe’s Fishing Forecast co-host Capt. Scott Shank to sit in, and it was perfect because we are smack in the middle of one of the best fishing seasons they could remember. Best of all time, perhaps? Listen in and judge for yourself…

Costa makes a very cool cleaning kit for your glasses! Perfect for the house, boat or vehicle!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: Betts sent me a new net! When you get a new net they can be extremely stiff and hard to throw. If you soak the net overnight in a bucket with fabric softener it will soften the net and make it much easier to throw!
