For the second straight year, the Fishing Forecast fell on Halloween. So the question is this: is First Coast fishing going to be scary or sweet this week? Find out from the guys on this episode.
It is officially deer season, and the boys have hunting on the brain and fever in their blood! Capt. Kevin and Jeff have been doing their best to take some deer down before Halloween, and as soon as Capt. Kirk can get over his cold, he will be doing the same. And seeing that it is the season of spooky, the guys – and a bunch of callers – shared some scary stories about deer encounters…including zombie deer!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Jeff: He just ordered these tactical bags for the season. (He got one for Kevin and Kirk too!)
Here’s your Ring Power CAT Tip of the Week: It’s a great time of year to fish with a Cajun Thunder! A couple of things to keep in mind. When you’re fishing in deeper water for trout it’s okay to make the cork pop, but when you’re throwing in shallow water for reds do not work the float! You will spook the reds in shallow water!
Captain Robee’s Smoked Fish Dip
The Gruesome Twosome was back together, as Capt. Kevin was back from his successful non-fishing adventures. He and Capt. Scott had a lot to say about what was happening on the water, and you do not want to miss the forecast. See if Mother Nature is planning some tricks or handing out some treats…
You gotta love Day One…especially when you are talking about Day One of Gun Season in Georgia! Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating again this year. Tropical Storm Nestor is bringing the rain, and the temperatures are still just too stinking high!
Kirk was back in the studio after doing his OSR – quail hunting in the frigid temperatures of Flandreau, South Dakota. He shared all kinds of great stories about his adventures, but he was not the only one.
Kevin had an amazing week, taking two does with some fantastic shots with his bow. Finally, the guys started talking about boating issues and accidents, and that is when everybody chimed in with their own stories.
It’s going to be a WET opening weekend in Georgia! The perfect way to keep your range finder, binoculars and glasses dry.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: #DIY Take it from Captain Kevin building his new condo stand… Doing it yourself for $500 is always better than buying it pre-made for $1500 or more!
Capt. Kevin headed north to do some serious non-fishing stuff, so Capt. Scott Shank called on Capt. Chip Wingo to sit in. They had a great time and passe along everything you will need for a great fall weekend on the water.
So here we are in the middle of October, and the boys have hunting on the brain. Capt. Kirk, in fact, was out of the studio doing some OSR in the form of quail hunting in South Dakota – he called in to give us the rundown on the hunting, the beautiful land, and the ugly weather.
Capt. Kevin and Jeff were focused on their Georgia properties. And special guest Capt. Scott Shank? Well, he was fishing. And Capt. Kevin had some very interesting things to say about the next few weeks on the water, so if you are into angling, this is worth a listen.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: We’ve always been a fan of Fishbites bait! And right now with the water temperature dropping the trout bite is getting better and better! The new Fight Club lures from Fishbites is a great bet and available at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: If you want to up your odds of seeing deer in the next couple of weeks you need to find an oak tree dropping acorns. The deer are feeding hard on the acorns right now!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders, Inc. Cooking tip of the week: Jack Link’s Beef Jerky is THE BEST road trip snack (or deer stand eats) according to Jeff. It’s low fat, full of protein, all natural…
If you could have seen the face of Capt. Scott! No, he was not embarrassed. No, he did not forget his sunscreen. That mug of his got scorched by the wind! Get the latest on the windy conditions, and find out if it is going to keep on blowing for your weekend fishing excursion.
Jeff was out of town this week, and boy, did he pick the wrong day to go. Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk did the episode LIVE from the Nocatee Boat Show, and they celebrated big-time because the Outdoors Show turned 22 this week!
22 years of fun, information, entertainment and fantastic stories. The best part was all of the input the listeners supplied. We LOVE you guys, and could not have done it without your support. Thank you!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: safely handle live crabs with these stainless steel tongs. Listen for details from Captain Kirk!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT Tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Right now there are a lot of black drum around! They love small baits. Even if you have big shrimp break them in half!
Palmetto Cheese Grits
Cooking tip from OS fan George: Palmetto Stone Ground Grits (or equivalent). Season with Palmetto Cheese when grits fully cooked. Freeze leftovers in plastic hamburger containers and cook as needed – fry in skillet over medium heat with olive oil.
September is officially behind us, fall is in full swing, and for most, their attention has shifted to the woods. But Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott are still on the water, and the question is…just how scary is the fishing? Find out, and get the latest forecast, too.
