OS 1106: Taking the Leap with Scotty Brown

Happy Leap Day!  Okay, we don’t really know what that means, but since it is February 29, we figure it’s suitable cause to celebrate.  With that in mind, the boys brought in a very special guest for the show: OS HOFer Scotty Brown!  Scotty shared a lot about how business is picking up for him as he makes his Florida swing for Southern Sportsman Aquatics and Land Management.

There was a lot to talk about (as there always is), but this week was highlighted with the stories surrounding the 5th Annual Walter ‘Chuck’ Foster Sporting Clay Shoot for Angelwood, Inc.  Loads of great stories, all for a wonderful cause.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: THE BEST calls from David Halloran Turkey Calls!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Jeff: Someone recently asked him about the best way to talk to kids about gun safety. This is a wonderful resource from the NRA – National Rifle Association of America.  https://eddieeagle.nra.org/

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Dr. Fred’s homemade garlic oil is good on EVERYTHING! Tune in now to find out how to get it…

Fishing Forecast 2/26/2020 – Things Are Cool

Yeah, the Moe’s Fishing Forecast is a cool show, but it’s not quite as cool as the remaining days of February are going to be.  Find out just how cool the temps are going to get, and how those temps are going to affect how, where and when you fish.

OS 1105: Men In Tights

The weather outside is FRIGHTFUL…and the temperature and wind is definitely not delightful. It is really amazing how the weather changes everything, and when the weather changes as radically as it has over the past week, it really makes a mess of things. The guys talked about it, Jeff shared some stories from his amazing trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unfortunately, it all went sideways when we had to address the tights Jeff got caught wearing on a hiking trail. Cue Dueling Banjos!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The Yeti bottle sling is perfect for a long hike or whenever you need to go handsfree! https://www.yeti.com/en_US/accessories
And man, take a look at those swanky leggings! LOL

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Avocado toast is great with a fried egg, hot sauce, tomatoes, cheese… but PICKLED RED ONION absolutely knocks it out of the park! Jeff is hooked! Here’s an easy recipe…

OS1104: Way Back When

Dr. Dave Edwards crashed the studio this week and joined the guys to talk all things outdoors. From turkeys to cleaning up your boat, they covered it all. But the show really took off as everyone - including the callers - began remembering those crazy childhood fishing stories! Lots of laughs, lots of great memories. And you do not want to miss the story about Abby, the little dog that had a BIG problem with everybody, especially Jeff!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Jeff’s favorite turkey hunting vest.  He says, “It’s the perfect vest to hold everything you need for the hunt, it also allows you the flexibility to sit comfortably ANYWHERE. It has the fold down seat that flips down so you can actually lean back. It allows you to sit still longer. It’s THE BEST turkey vest ever.”

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: Make sure you have your list ready to go for Turkey season… get it all organized now so you have everything in order etc. Here’s a great one from NWTF. What you don’t have now…you still have time to get. Then check that list twice like Santa! (Kirk’s list was too big to post!! LOL)

Here’s your KirbyCo Builders Inc. cooking tip from Jeff: Normally we don’t put anything on brisket…but this recipe was worth trying! Mix: One can of Beer (we used Blue Moon), 1 tbsp garlic, hot rotel, regular rotel, one chopped sweet onion. Cook on the stovetop over medium until it cooks down quite a bit. After letting the brisket sit for a few hours after cooking. Pour the rotel mix around the meat. Cover tightly and put in the fridge overnight. Re-heat in the oven the next day at 250 degrees. Enjoy!

Fishing Forecast-February 12-Flying Away and Taking the Bait

Capt. Kevin was off AGAIN this week, making his way north for a fly fishing trip! And while all of us wish we had video footage of that disaster, Capt. Scott and Capt. Leon spent this episode talking about the nice changes they are noticing in the area, including all kinds of bait for everybody! Be sure to listen in for great ways to find your own honey holes…

OS1103: Turkeys and Tackle

Dr. Dave Edwards, the “official” wildlife biologist of the Nimnicht Chevrolet and Nimnicht Buick-GMC Outdoors Show, joined the guys to talk turkey! Specifically, Dave talked about what to do to prepare for the season. And when they were not talking about the woods, Jeff, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk talked about all kinds of offshore fishing tips and tricks, including boat safety, fishing spots, and more. And, as always, thing got a little sideways…

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: here’s one example of a sheepshead rig. Do you have a favorite?

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Can you outshoot The Outdoors Show team!? Wild West Guns & Gold won it all last year… get your spot at the Angelwood, Inc. Walter ‘Chuck’ Foster sporting clay shoot presented by ChopHouse Thirteen.  Great cause. Great day. Remembering one of the greatest of friends – Chuck Foster.

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from one of our faithful listeners – Shelley Ward! She made deviled eggs using three of our favorite ingredients! Lusty Monk Original Sin Mustard (www.lustymonk.com), Trader Joe’s Black Forest Bacon and Mezzetta jalapeños.
YUM!!!

Fishing Forecast-February 5-Catching Fish and Turning Wrenches

Capt. Kevin was off doing some OSR, so Capt. Scott welcomed in Capt. Leon Dana for some guest hosting duties. The guys talked about fishing, of course, but they also gave some noteworthy insight into boat maintenance. If you own a boat, you do not want to miss this one.

OS1102: Boyd Duckett and…Giblets?

The guys had the privilege of catching up with Boyd Duckett, co-founder of Major League Fishing. Boyd has registered four wins, 23 Top 10s and more than $1.7 million in career winnings. There was also lots of talk – and lots of laughs – about hunting, guns and food, too. And by the way…how do you pronounce giblets? We had NO CLUE how sideways this would get us…

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: For hours of family fun at the beach… get yourself a sand flea rake!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Let’s talk about alternative baits for sheepshead: Live shrimp, blue crabs, clams or sand fleas… what’s your bait of choice? Listen in to find out what the guys – and the callers – had to say.

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc cooking tip of the week: Lester told us about these Mezzetta jalapeños and we’ve been putting them on EVERYTHING!! Man are they good!
