Fishing Forecast – Good Fishin’ Before The Storm

Thankfully, things have gotten A LOT better since the last time Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott got together for the Forecast.  The weather’s been better, the fishing’s been better.  BUT (there’s always a BUT, isn’t there?) we have something new to worry about: Tropical Storm Isaias.  As of Thursday night, it was projected to pass by the First Coast on Sunday as a hurricane.  What kind of impact will it have on us?  The guys talk about it and give you the very latest forecast, too.

OS 1126: Three Captains and One Fine Mess

With Jeff out of the studio to celebrate Papa Lageman’s 80th birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!), Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk were once again joined by Fishing Forecast host Capt. Scott Shank.  The guys had a rough week, even though the bait finally showed up – the weather was NOT cooperating AT ALL.  Nasty storms, annoying wind, and rough seas made for some tough fishing, and it continues into this weekend.

Regardless, the guys had lots of fun sharing lots of stories, tips, and tricks.  The guys also talked about the proposed flounder regulations and even got into some hunting talk with bow season coming up in the next couple of months.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: An option for an inexpensive pair of pliers that work great. I bought these at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville for $12.99!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Time to start tuning your bow! Don’t wait till the last minute to have your bow checked out. Take it to Rick Stinson at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville and have it tuned correctly!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Kirk. The “Best” hot sauce I have ever had! Good on fish, chicken, steak, venison….. even bark!! Imparts a sweet hot flavor to any meal with an exotic twist!

Fishing Forecast – There’s FINALLY Bait! But…

2020 has been a real turd of a year.  On top of everything else that’s been happening, bait along the First Coast has been almost IMPOSSIBLE to find.  And when you actually could find it, it was gone the next day.  Well, here’s the good news: Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott have a great bait report for you!

But there’s bad news, too…and you’re going to have to listen to find out.

OS 1125: Hard Times and Big Birds

It’s been one tough week for First Coast anglers; if you’re looking for bait, you’re looking long and hard.  Veteran charter captains aren’t immune – Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk were pretty much snakebit, too!  But you can get some good tips and techniques to find everything you can and work with what you’ve got.

But there was a lot of good stuff to talk about, and the guys did everything they could to talk about it all.  Everybody got fired up when Jeff shared his osprey story, and quite a few callers had great stories of their own…and, as things often do, things went a bit sideways.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Our awesome producer Chris introduced us to this: The Q-Swiper! The Q-Swiper BBQ Grill Cleaner cleans your BBQ grill grates with a Moist, Tough and Safe BBQ Grill Cleaning Wipe that absorbs grease from grill surfaces.  Get yours HERE

Fishing Forecast – Hangin with Ricky the Rookie

The only thing better than having two captains in the studio is having three!  Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott were joined by first-year charter captain, Capt. Ricky!  It’s an episode with a great mix of perspectives on everything happening in First Coast waters, and it’s definitely worth the listen!

OS 1124: The Summer Smorgasbord

The talk of the town this week is snapper season, and the chaos which ensues every time it opens up.  Obviously, the guys talked about it, but there was a lot more to discuss – all kinds of fishing stories, tips, info…and even a little hunting chatter, too.

The guys also took a little time to mourn the passing of Charlie Daniels.  RIP…

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Kevin loves this gear and equipment hanger… it’s under $10 too!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife: Red snapper season in Atlantic federal waters is July 10-12 and July 17! Our researchers will be out along the east coast asking anglers about their red snapper trips and their catch. The survey is short and staff will be wearing masks and following social distancing and disinfection protocols. Don’t forget the State Reef Fish Angler designation is required for those 16 and older fishing from a private vessel in Florida for red snapper and certain reef fish. Fishing Forecast: Time to Snap(per) Out of It!

If you thought the Old School Shootout was crazy, if the Kingbuster was nuts, there’s only one thing that puts them both to shame: snapper season!  Get ready, because all kinds of craziness is breaking loose at every ramp along the First Coast, as countless anglers hit the water to get them some snapper.  Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott talk about the craziness and look at how the forecast is going to affect this weekend’s madness.

OS 1123: Happy Independence Day!

The guys got together in the studio for a special red, white, and blue episode of the show!  If you know ANYTHING about The Outdoors Show crew, you know everybody loves our country, so there’s no doubt you’ll feel the patriotism during this show.

Kevin also shared his Kingbuster experience and everybody congratulated Capt. Don Dingman and the Kingbuster team for putting together another first class tournament.

The show was ruled with the hot dog and coleslaw banter.  The $64,000 Question: is Publix slaw good or terrible?

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: We tied a new rig this week specifically for snapper season opening next Friday! It’s 80 pound flourocarbon with an 8/0 circle hook! Available at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville!

Fishing Forecast – Nothing But Net

Here we are in the heat of the summer…well, in the first part of the heat of the summer, anyway.  It’s been downright blazing this past week, but the heat hasn’t been the biggest problem for our favorite captains.  Nope, you know what’s been driving Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott crazy, because it’s probably been bugging you, too – bait is SO darn difficult to get!!!  The guys have been throwing their arms out of their sockets trying to get enough to make their trips worthwhile!  They talk about it, check in with the regulars, and give you the latest forecast as well.
