OS 1144: Thankful for the Outdoors

The boys found themselves in the wake of Thanksgiving, thankful for everything they have, of course.  Jeff was so thankful he stayed in Georgia to enjoy it!  So, Moe’s Fishing Forecast co-host Capt. Scott Shank sat in with Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk to spin some yarns and have some fun.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Milwaukee M18 Battery powered pole saw $399 at Home Depot.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Supposed to get a hard freeze this coming week in Georgia. If you have hunting property there you need to make sure you are prepared. Cover pipes, maybe leave water running, etc.

OS 1143: LIVE from Hagan Coastal Outfitters

To kick off Thanksgiving week, the boys were on the road, doing the show LIVE from Hagan Coastal Outfitters inside the brand new Hagan Ace Hardware in Yulee!

Early on, Jeff brought up his memories of his first trip to Toys’R’Us when he was a kid.  Well, that’s EXACTLY how everybody felt inside the new Hagan Ace!  All the best outdoor toys anywhere!

Of course, the show was filled with some great stories and calls – how could it not be?

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Thermoseat Heat-A-Seat seat cushions are fantastic. Obviously they keep you warm, but the added cushion is great for long sits!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Come see us this morning at the new Hagan Coastal Outfitters inside Hagan Ace Hardware of Yulee! 85880 Miner Road.

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: The best way to add some new twists to Thanksgiving is by working in a new recipe.  So this week, we want to do an Outdoors Show Thanksgiving Recipe Swap! Check our Facebook page to see everyone’s all-time favorite #1 Thanksgiving side dish recipe…

Fishing Forecast: I Came Back For THIS?

Capt. Kevin made his return for extended OSR in Indiana, and let’s just say he wasn’t happy to see how things had shaped here at home on the First Coast.  Sure, we made it through the nightmare of Tropical Storm Eta (wink, wink), but things are just, well, not really worth coming back for him!  But he and Capt. Scott talked everybody’s way through it.  Misery loves company, right?

Anyway, the guys had fun no matter what, and you can listen in to have some fun yourself…and find out if things are changing for the better this coming week.

OS 1142: The Big Bucks of Hoosier Country

Capt. Kevin was FINALLY back in the studio after two weeks of OSR in Indiana, and boy, did he bring back a BUNCH of great stories.  Spectacular deer hunting stories, of course, but some cool stuff about the area and the history of the town, too.  Going into details here won’t do these stories justice…you’ve got to listen!

But he wasn’t the only one with stories.  Kirk was quick to talk about his son’s bear experience – and the power of prayer!  Jeff came to the table with a funny story of own about his Georgia hunting property and some “interesting” Jamaican fellows.  And our listeners decided they’d share some stories of their own, including Chris, who checked in with a great recap of his hunting trip out in Colorado.

Finally, we must tell you that the end of the show is 100% certified MUST LISTEN.  Capt. Kevin brought up CBs, and in the hilarious, side-splitting minutes that followed, the guys (and everyone else) learned something new about Capt. Kirk – he definitely had his ears on back in the day!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Get you a slingshot with all the acorn ammo! https://www.walmart.com/ip/Daisy-F16-Slingshot/27671881

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: These HME Trail Marking Tacks are great to use for trail markers – highly reflective and super easy to see!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week! Jiffy cornbread mix plus two heaping spoonfuls of Palmetto Cheese mixed into the batter = a match made in heaven!

Fishing Forecast: Happy Eta’s Eve

As of the recording of this episode, Tropical Storm Eta is getting ready to cut across Florida and head directly for the First Coast.  So how is that going to affect the fishing?  Well, while Capt. Kevin is STILL away on an OSR expedition, Capt. Scott and Capt. Leon Dana will give you the full scoop.

OS 1141: SUPERB Story Time

Capt. Kevin was out of the studio for today’s episode – he’s still doing some OSR in Indiana.  But Jeff was back from some OSR of his own, and boy, did he have some great stories to share.  After cooking in the stand for an hour before he got hit with some serious buck fever at the sight of a beautiful 8pt.  But he calmed down, the buck took his time and gave him a broadside look, and Jeff put him down.  Big, gorgeous, and tasty (well, that’s speculation, but whatever…)!

Jeff’s biggest – and best – story of the day wasn’t about his about his hunting prowess…it was about his love of being a father.  This one was about Taylor’s first hunt, and a whole lot more.  This story is AMAZING.  And bizarre…to give you a hint, it involves a dog named WalMart and his rather odd appetite.

Capt. Kirk had some stories of his own, including a beautiful trip to PA last week.  It may not have been a trip he wanted to take, but boy, was he glad he did.  It was a fabulous experience for Kirk, and he does a masterful job of taking us all there with him.  It’s not a tale to be missed, but it wasn’t Kirk’s only story.  The good captain also had a potential run-in with The Rocks…and one of the BIG freighters coming through.  That triggered some other memories of his, including one of the scariest Rocks experiences he’d ever seen.  What do you get when you mash up a guy who isn’t paying attention, a couple of REALLY bad decisions, and a trip to the hospital?  77 stitches and a lifelong cautionary tale…

And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll find out the origin of the term “namby-pamby”.  WHAT IN THE WIDE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS IS-A GOIN’ ON HERE?

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Captain Kirk loves this Jumbo hand warmer from Bass Pro Shops $17.99

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Always carry some rope, a knife and a lighter in your pack. So many uses… what are yours? Jeff made a quick deer drag for a doe this past week.

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Pepper Lovers (like Jeff) rejoice!! Courtesy of Alton Brown, you can build your own cordless drill pepper grinder… Say goodbye to those sore forearms trying to get pepper! Fishing Forecast: WWED…What Will Eta Do?

Capt. Kevin is off once again – this time, taking care of some OSR, Indiana style.  So Capt. Scott invited Capt. Leon Dana to come in and talk a little bit about what’s been happening, and a lot more about what could happen.  Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Tropical Depression Eta has been destroying Central America for the past couple of days, but reports and models are predicting that she COULD actually turn to attack Florida, which could have a major impact on the First Coast.

Listen in to find out what may happen, and more importantly, what you can do to get some line time in regardless.
