Fishing Forecast: Absolutely Exasperbaited

You don’t even have to ask – “exasperbaited” ain’t a word.  Ain’t ain’t a word neither, and we’re using that one, too.  Since “exasperated” means “to have made one extremely annoyed” or “have made one angered”, the definition to our new word, exasperbaited, means “to get extremely ticked off by the lack of bait offshore.”

Sure, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott may be P-Oed, but hey, the world got a new word out of it, so that’s something.

But the good news is that the temps keep rising, the water’s getting a bit better, and fish are getting caught inshore, on the beach, and offshore, too.  Want to know if the trend continues?  Check out this week’s forecast.

OS 1164: LIVE from Tire Outlet

In Part 2 of the OS World Tour, the guys found themselves in Yulee at Tire Outlet for their Grand Opening Celebration!  It was quite a party, with special deals, delicious food, great fun, and unbelievable giveaways!

It was quite a party, but it wouldn’t be an episode of the Outdoors Show without some great stories.  Kevin had a hilarious fishing story, and Jeff had a great one about his latest turkey hunt.  Throw in some great caller stories and questions, along with some on-site shenanigans, and you’ve got yourself a great show to check out!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Come by Tire Outlet in Yulee for the grand opening and get an Outdoors Show decal! (While supplies last) — in Yulee, Florida.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Need new tires!? Stop by and see our friends at Tire Outlet! Stop by their GRAND OPENING in Yulee this weekend!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Captain Kirk says to try the Blues Hog BBQ sauce… it’s really good and different! You can find it at Hagan Ace Hardware.

Fishing Forecast: Lots of Captains…Lots of Fish?

Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott had some company for this episode, welcoming in Capt. Ricky and Capt. Bill to talk about everything happening on the water this week.  The 2nd most important question of the day: were the fish biting for all those captains?  And the 1st most important question: how is that weather forecast looking…and are we looking we’ll be catching some fish in the next week?  You’ll have to listen in to find out.

OS 1163: LIVE from the Jacksonville Boat Show

The guys were live from the Jacksonville Boat Show on this episode, except for Capt. Kirk, who was sporting his pom-poms and cheering on his soccer superstar granddaughter.  In a first, Boat Show organizers held it at a new location: Metro Park Marina downtown.  Lots of amazing boats, and lots of fun being outside for a change!

Friend of the show and all-around super-smart guy, Dr. Quinton White (who also happens to be Executive Director, Marine Science Research Institute and Professor of Biology and Marine Science at Jacksonville University) called in to talk about some local and national aquatic environmental issues.  Dr. White called these issues “catastrophic” – a word he doesn’t use liberally.  Listen in to get the details.

Erin Johnson, Administrative Director of the Jacksonville Marine Association, sat in with Capt. Kevin and Jeff to talk about the boat show, fishing the First Coast, and more.  She shared a lot of important info, however business picked up when she introduced us to a new term: “Charlie Foxtrot”.  Listen to get some clues about what that means…

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The Shimano Power Plier pliers are Captain Kirk’s favorite new pair of pliers.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week… Come by the Jacksonville Boat Show this weekend! Saturday 10am – 7pm and Sunday 10am – 5pm.

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Sweet potato and pineapple hash

Try roasting sweet potatoes (diced) with olive oil and sea salt at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Add diced pineapple (make sure it’s drained well), toss, and bake for another 10 mins… broil at the end for a few minutes if desired to get the potatoes extra crispy and caramelize the pineapple! SO good! Makes a great bed for pork, fish and chicken!

Fishing Forecast: This Is One Good April!

Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott waste no time talking about how good the inshore and offshore fishing has been so far in April.  It’s a bit different than normal, but they’re catching all kinds of fish already!  So the real question is this: if the fishing is good in early April, just how good is going to get for the rest of the month and into May?  Listen in to get the weather forecast and their predictions about just how good things are going to get.

OS 1162: Outdoors First World Problems

What in the world is an outdoors fanatic on the First Coast to do?  The guys talk about the difficult decisions they have to face between heading to the woods for turkey or heading to the water for…well, everything!

Between the fishing stories and the hit-and-miss turkey stories, we had a lot of ground to cover and a lot of fun to have.

During the show, the latest Skiff Challenge wrapped up, and the guys kept everybody up to speed.  Dave “Scoop” Edwards checked in, serving as our intrepid reporter, and he gave us the lowdown and all the inside-the-business info.  Listen in to find out who won it (and how beat up they are).  One warning, though – things do go a little sideways.  Be warned…you’ll never look at a muzzleloader the same way!.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The Eva-Dry Dehumidifier is a great way to keep your guns in your gun safe dry!  Just place the small dehumidifiers and go to have your spaces up to 333 cubic feet dry and odor-free with our small dehumidifier.  Eva-Dry dehumidifiers absorb up to 6oz of water over 20-30 days before needing to renew the silica gel beads.  These portable, renewable dehumidifiers are made without toxic chemicals and are completely child and pet safe. Their sleek eco-friendly design allows you to re-charge them anywhere. Their size is optimal for cars, closets, boats, cabinets, gun safes, and even gym bags!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: There is definitely bait on the beach in St. Augustine and the Rays should show up soon. But don’t get in a hurry. Water temperature is still cool. Your best fishing time should be from around 11am till 3pm!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Jeff recently had a sea bass dish that knocked his socks off… here’s an easy recipe to try!

Fishing Forecast: Watch Out! It’s A-Comin’…

Capt. Kevin looked into his crystal ball.  Capt. Scott read the tea leaves.  And they were right!  Last week, they said conditions were starting to look outstanding for some off-the-hook (on-the-hook?) fishing all over the First Coast.  The water’s still a bit chilly, but temperatures are beginning to heat up, and so is the fishing.  Will it heat up for you?  Listen to get the forecast so you know where to go, what to bring, and what you’re going to be catching this week!

OS 1161: Races, Records, and Reminiscing

With Capt. Kirk out of the studio to cheer on his soccer-star granddaughter, Capt. Kevin and Jeff had the pleasure of talking with guests Capt. Chris Peterson and Dave Edwards about the CRAZY Florida Skiff Challenge.  More importantly, they talked about “Captains For Clean Water”, the charity organization it supports.  This is one wild challenge!

Jeff also introduced a cool list of angling records that supposedly “will never be broken”.  One record, according to Capt. Kevin, WILL be broken…wondering which one it is?  Listen in to find out.

And somehow…we got to talking about K-Mart.  K-Mart?  Blue Light Special in Outdoor Supplies…

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Check out Shimano’s NEW Symetre spinning combos. Several sizes and rod lengths to choose from. $99 each at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Support the “Skiff Challenge” that supports “Captains for Clean Water”. Chris Peterson and Dave Edwards will join us to discuss this exciting 1300 mile race/competition details!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Easy peasy instant pot pulled pork. Recipe is from Damn Delicious 🤤 (we used Blues Hog sweet & savory from Hagan Ace Hardware as the seasoning!)

Fishing Forecast: Is The Joke On Us?

This episode hit the air on April Fool’s Day, and things got downright foolish for Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott today.  It was windy, it was wet, and it was all kinds of chilly.  The good news is that the fishing situation is changing for the better; Capt. Scott celebrated FOUR firsts on his most recent trip, so listen in to see what he caught.

But the big question is this: which was the joke that Mother Nature played on us – the sweltering heat of late spring/early summer, or the chilly bite of winter?  The guys will tell you as they get you ready for the upcoming week.
